First of all, make sure to take your time and think about what kind of pictures you're drawn to, since every photographer has their own style. Are you looking for classic portraits in a pastel color palette, or one that’s more of a minimalistic type? This is of course pretty obvious but worth mentioning, so that your expectations of the result won’t be a disappointment, and to not let the photographer shoot in a style which isn’t their's.
Set up a meeting
Now, when you've figured that all out, let's meet! This isn’t necessary of course, but have in mind your photographer is going to stay pretty close to you, especially at a wedding, and that makes it a lot easier when we're all comfortable and relaxed together. Personally I have a very simple approach to storytelling,
I observe and catch unexpected (and expected) moments throughout the day/session to get a genuine feeling for the story, so authenticity is crucial to achieve what's really you. Even if a picture itself is beautiful, you will always remember how you felt when it was taken, and that's why I want us to vibe.
Trust your photographer
I always strive to make you feel comfortable in front of the lens! And don’t worry if your photographer is for example chatting with your guests at your event, it’s a way to make everyone feel relaxed. People tend to get awkward when there's just someone lurking around taking pictures all the time. So trust your photographer, just as you trusted your instinct when hiring them, they're there to create memories together with you, and make them last. You're there to have FUN!
